The 4R Nutrient Stewardship Certification Program in Ontario is proud to announce the Cottam branch of Setterington’s Fertilizer Service Ltd as the third agriculture nutrient service provider to achieve 4R Certification in Ontario.
Setterington’s as part of the Agromart Group provides the agricultural community with the most cost-effective tools and knowledge to maximize yields and profitability. Their staff are highly trained, knowledgeable, and devoted to work alongside their grower customers.
“Setterington’s has shown leadership in sustainable agriculture by providing an invaluable service to growers in the Western Lake Erie Basin,” said Garth Whyte, President & CEO of Fertilizer Canada. “We encourage growers who are now starting spring seeding, to ask their agri-retailer about incorporating 4R Nutrient Stewardship into their nutrient management plans.”
Through the voluntary 4R program, agri-retailers are fitted with the tools to provide grower customers with advice based on the high standards of 4R Nutrient Stewardship and the program’s scientifically proven best management practices (BMPs).
“Setterington’s Fertilizer Service Ltd is proud to have been serving both Essex and Kent County for the past 87 years.” said Chris Rahm, General Manager with Setterington’s Fertilizer Service Ltd “We are committed to heightening the visibility of 4Rs as an industry-led standard that amplifies grower’s economic return, while improving yields and reducing environmental impact.”
The Ontario agri-retailer community continues to demonstrate their commitment to sustainable agriculture practices, with over 20 sites who have currently completed a 4R Certification pre-audit specifications and are moving towards full certification. Earlier this year Thompsons Limited and AGRIS Co-operative Ltd, also received their full 4R Certification.
“OABA congratulates Setterington’s Fertilizer Service Ltd. for certification of their Cottam location under the 4R program in Ontario. This successful certification is indicative of the broader commitment and leadership being shown by crop retailers across the province in bringing 4R Nutrient Stewardship to Ontario farms.” Dave Buttenham, CEO, Ontario Agri Business Association.
The 4R Certification Program is funded and guided under a 4R Ontario Steering Committee comprised of a diverse set of stakeholders from industry, government, conservation authorities and grower organizations. Acreage managed by agri-retailers who are 4R Certified add to the total farmland in Fertilizer Canada’s goal of verified acres under 4R Nutrient Stewardship.
