SPRINGFIELD, OH (Jan. 6, 2020) — The Global Education and Peace Network will hold the next installment in its Global Education Speaker Series “Sharing our Roots: Growing Together Across Our disAbilities” with Steve and Lillian White, on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 6:30 p.m. in the Buckeye Room, FF Mueller Center-Activity Center, 2537 Kenton Street.
The program, coordinated by Global Education and Peace Network members Lillian and Steven White, will offer a greater understanding of the daily life of those who are hard of hearing, blind, or unable to walk or speak.
“Sometimes you have to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes before you understand what it’s like to be them,” said Lillian White. “If all of a sudden you are blind, life becomes quite a bit different. What if you have to navigate life from a wheelchair? What if you can’t hear or use your hands very well? Our goal is to build awareness and empathy for people living with disabilities.”
The Global Education and Peace Network celebrates its 18th season with the speaker series, “Sharing our Roots: Growing Springfield Together.” Monthly programs will explore ways local residents practice kindness in their lives. The Global Education and Peace Network formed during City-sponsored study circles after the tragedy of 9/11. They seek to build bridges of understanding across cultural divides with their monthly speaker series and annual calendar.
The 2019-2020 Global Education calendar, which features the series, will be available at no charge at the Jan. 9 program. Information is also available on the City of Springfield’s website at springfieldohio.gov/global-education.
